Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar…..

Its calm outside, as I sit near the window. Its drizzling, but to my surprise there are no kids running on the roads to welcome the onset of rains. My attention is diverted to one particular song that is being played in the loop. The song is none other than “Jhuki Jhuki si Nazar”. The melancholy in the voice of Jagjit Singh brought a lump in my throat.

I follow the sound of the music, but I am unable to trace its origin. I give up on the quest of finding where exactly the song is being played, rather I decide to take my corner of the room and get deeply involved in the song.

I am falling in love with every word being sung in the song. Until the last few verses that struck me as hard as an arrow. The reality, the fact that each one of us fear to accept. The fact that someday we will be left alone to fight our own destiny. A fact that we have come alone into this world and we will have to leave it alone.
Eyes filled with tears I kept humming the last few lines of the song:

“Teri umeed par thukra raha tha duniya ko……
Tujhe bhi apne pe he aitbar hai ki nahi………..
Jhuki Jhuki si nazar, bekarar hai ki nahi……..”

Project 30

I have been away from writing for a while. To be very precise away from blogging. My fingers have not met the keys on the key board since some time now. Reason being? Well my kid brother walks upto me with drooling shoulders and sad expressions. When I enquired, he explained that something is bothering him.

So, I decided to behave like a responsible elder sister and bail him out of that “something”. He started, “Didi I have to complete 6 assignments in 3 days”, I still didn’t get the catch.  I suggested, “Ha, to kya problem hai? Write 2 assignments a day, ek subah , ek sham main.” Had I known what was coming my way I would have pretended to be deaf and dumb to his “something?” He immediately popped from his chair  gave me the books and some sheets and said, “Thanks didi, mujhe pata tha, you will come to my rescue.”

I was dumbstruck I totally lost it, with words ofcourse! So, since the last three days I have only been writing pages after pages. Now my fingers have started to ache and I am unable to type. I have decided to give them a break. I won’t be using them much.

Hence I have come up with Project 30. In this project only my index finger will be put to a little stress. I have decided to click one picture each for the next 30 days. I know this is my stress buster, the moment I held the camera I forgot all my stress and strain. Thanks Vicky (my kid bro), for helping me with project 30!!!!!

IN THE LOOP

Ra-one the most awaited movie, Shahrukh looks adorable only in this one ;)

I have been listening to the song dildaara in loop since the last couple of hours, from the movie. Beautifully sung by Shafkat Amanat Ali. Friends this one is a must listen.

For now the lyrics of the song.

When the night has come..
when the land is dark..
when the moon is the only light..
when the moon is the only light..
We will see
Darling.. Darling..
O rahbara
Mere rehbara
Oooooo tujhse vastha
Tu.. manzil..
Hai aurat bhi..
Uss manzil ke..
Aage ka rasta
O rehnuma
Mere rehnuma
Ooooooo tere naam sa
Ab koi.. bhi lafsa nahi..
Pad kar dekhi
So kitaabe sau dafa
Dildaara dildaara
Ye rati bhar ka jag sara
Dildaara dildaara
Tere nazaro ke dum pe sab vara
O.. dildaara dildaara
Jab jeeta jab tujhse hara
Dildara Dildara

And it rained, yet again....

Time and Tide wait for none. Time flew, years passed by, the thoughts of Ruchika came to Sameers mind. Ruchika never got over Sameer. She would still read the letters Sameer wrote to her years back. She would still wet her pillow when she missed him. Sameer would still pick the phone dial her number and cut the call even before the phone on the other end rang.

Sameer is well placed in his life. He is still lonely. He has many friends but not that special person with him. Ruchika owns a studio in Lokhandwala, a plush studio that is dedicated to all forms of art.

“Hello, Ritesh.”

“Sameer, my buddy.”

“I have reached Mumbai.” Says Sameer.

“Yes I remember, you were to reach this morning. Sorry couldn’t come to pick you up.”

“That’s alright you had informed me earlier.”

“Ritesh do you have Ruchika’s number?”

“No buddy I tried to meet her a couple of times, but she refused, I have no idea where she is. I am sorry.”

“Why are you sorry for my mistakes Ritesh.”

“What are your plans for the day?” Asks Ritesh.

“Nothing much, haven’t really thought about it.”

“Never mind, you take your time, let me know if you want to meet.”

“Ritesh, you have been my best buddy always.”

“Chal , maska mat maar, bata Armani laya hai ya nahi?”

They both laugh out loud.

“I will meet you at 5 near Marine drive.” Says Ritesh.

“Right! I will be there.”

Sameer drives through the streets of Mumbai. They remind him of Ruchika. They remind him of the days he spent with her. As he drives he realizes its monsoon already in Mumbai. The streets are clogged with water; the children are running shirtless on the street. The lovers have got cozy under a single umbrella. As he drives past the streets his eyes are filled with tears. He reaches Marine drive and parks his car. Walks past the area where he had met Ruchika for the first time. It was the same time of the year. He stops just there. He wants to walk past, but is unable to do so. He sits down and feels miserable for he is missing Ruchika and has no clue where would he find her. He wants to desperately tell her how much he loves her and that it was the biggest mistake of his life to let go of her.

Yes, it hurts, after all I am human.

Sameer closed his eyes with this thought and tears rolled down his cheek. He sat alone. He looked up at the dark sky. It starts to pour heavily. Sameer is letting himself get drenched in the rains, for nobody would know that it’s the tears that are rolling down.

Just then a car stops near him. Sameer gets a pat on his back. He is more than surprised.

“Mumbai rains are to die for isn’t it Sameer?”

And somewhere in the background the song played.

Wise men say only fools rush in, but I can’t help falling in love with you.

************

And we parted....

“Hi, how are you?” Asks Ruchika.

“I am fine.” Replies Sameer.

Its been more than a year, Sameer is in Boston. The frequency of the calls have reduced. He doesn’t send her the letters anymore, they don’t chat over the video calls. Sameer has changed and he thinks its for good.

“Whats bothering you Sameer?”

“Nothing Ruchika, nothing is bothering me.”

“You never call me Ruchika. Why now?”

“Things change yaar, people change. And with changing time, one must change to keep the pace with it.”

“Are you seeing someone else Sameer.”

“You girls can think only in one direction, isn’t it?”

“Its not about thinking in one direction Sameer, if yes I am not going to be the reason for your misery.”

“No I am not seeing someone else. Long distance relationships don’t work Ruchika. Moreoever I am extremely busy with my studies. The fall of this year I will have a job in my hand, I don’t want to leave this place and you wouldn’t come here.”

“Sameer you always gave me an idea you wanted to come back after your studies. You never told me that you wanted to settle there.”

“I am now telling you, I want to be here, I am not coming back.”

Ruchika has nothing to say, she feels cheated and betrayed. The only person she loved has shattered her.

“You are free Sameer, I always said I love you, I don’t own you.”

“I am sorry Ruchika. I didn’t mean to hurt you ever, but I am over it. I am really very sorry.”

Sameer Hangs the call. People often want to find reasons to end a relationship, sometimes distances start to matter, sometimes people just change for no reason and sometimes everything seems to be so useless, sometimes they just look for a reason, for they want to hide their mistakes and never admit their faults.

And We said Goodbye....

Its the time of the year when the students fly to their dream destinations. Sameer always wanted to be in the United Sates of America, for his higher studies. Ruchika on the other hand wanted to stay back in Mumbai, because she found the streets, the pot holes, the people, the food and most importantly the rains to be far better than the west.

“Have you packed everything?” Asks Ruchika.

“Yes almost everything except you.” Replies Sameer.

“Sameer, you know I love you very much, but my life is here in Mumbai. This is the place where I met you right? I have a lot of good memories with you.”

“Come with me Ruch, lets be together always.”

“Sameer I can’t. You know it.”

“I will miss you a lot Ruch.”

“Sameer always know one thing, I trust you and have lot of faith in you. I don’t own you; I love you and respect you for the kind of person you are. You have taught me many things in life, most importantly you have taught me to love, you and me both. Whenever you miss me I am just a phone call away. Plus you are a tech savvy person; you will own the best of the gadgets once you reach there….  ” Laughs Ruchika.

“I love you so much, Ruch.”

“I love you too Sameer, I love you too.”

“Its time I should leave for the airport.” Says Sameer.

“Just check quickly all your documents once.” Replies Ruchika.

“Yeah , just hold on, let me go through them once.” Says Sameer.

When he is going through his documents he finds a sealed envelope, he is surprised. He opens the envelope to find twelve blank A4 sheets. They have a similar fragrance, the same of Ruchikas.

“What are these sheets for?” Asks Sameer Surprisingly!

“How did you know I kept them.” Asks Ruchika.

“Do you always ask so many questions Ruch? (Laughs Sameer.) They smell of you.”

“Write to me once a month, along with a picture of yours. I wants see if you change with changing times.” Replies Ruchika.

“I have to leave Ruch.”

“I love you Sameer.”

“I love you a lot, Ruch, I will miss you.”

And We Loved....

Days seem shorter and nights longer than ever when in love. This was the exact situation with Ruchika and Sameer. They spoke for almost 8 hours a day, met every alternate day and when they didn’t meet they simply were lost in each others thoughts.

It’s been a year since they met first, with each passing day the love and the relationship grew stronger.

“Sameer do you remember, the first time you called me?” Asked Ruchika.

“Yes I do. And you asked Rohan to reply the call.”

“I didn’t ask him to reply he was the one who took the call.” Laughs Ruchika.

“Yeah whatever.” Replies Sameer (With a more pissed off look.)

“Wouldn’t you want to know what was I upto, that I was even ready to miss your call?” Says Ruchika.

“Is there any possibility of you not telling me this?” Laughs Sameer.

Ruchika is irritated and has turned her back towards Sameer.

“Ok sorry Ruch, tell me what were you busy with?”

“No, I am not in a mood to tell you anything.”

“Hey Ruch, listen to me, please, I wanna listen to it, please tell me.”

Ruchika shrugs her shoulders and just doesn’t speak a word. Sameer shifts his place and now sits right infront of Ruchika.

“Look here, I really want to listen.”Says Sameer.

“Alright, I was developing the picture I gave you as a gift when we first met.”

Sameer is looking into Ruchika’s eyes and he can see the twinkle in them. He leans forward kisses her forhead. Ruchika holds Sameer’s hand, she doesn’t want the kiss to end. Just then Sameer kisses Ruchika again and takes her by surprise.

“I hope I didn’t do anything wrong Ruch?”

“Sameer you complete me.”
